AUTONOMOUS PRODUCTION WITH FOLD QUALITY CONTROL AND SIGNATURE CHANGE
Folding of high quality and error-free Folding machines are
already producing autonomously and the physically strenuous stacking of the folded signatures is done by the CoBo-Stack robot from MBO. But up to this point we cannot speak of a completely automated finishing line. Who is now responsible for the fold quality control, for example? The MBO VT50 has recently been available for this purpose.
The VT50 fold quality control is unique on the market. It takes place directly behind the folding machine. Two cameras measure the folding tolerances on the finished folded sheets. These tolerances can be set order-specifically by the customer. Misfolded sheets or sheets that are not within tolerance are ejected at the output of the VT50. This ensures that only perfectly folded sheets are transferred to the subsequent delivery.
In addition, MBO is bringing another innovation to the market with the autopilot. The autopilot works with a camera on the pallet feeder and processes the information from the MBO Datamanager in conjunction with an MIS system. The camera reads out a data code that was printed on the signature in advance. Each signature has its own code. If the signature changes, production is briefly interrupted. The A80 delivery is informed of the signature change by the autopilot and automatically places the new signature on a new pallet with the CoBo stack. This prevents the folded signatures from being mixed up and the meter readings are saved automatically.
With these two highlights – automatic folding quality control and automatic signature change – this finishing solution is the safest, most efficient and most productive folding machine installation worldwide. Work that was previously carried out by the operator is now automated. Human errors are a thing of the past and the operator can take care of other work or operate two folding machines at the same time.
